ARTE CIVICO, is an intellectual, non-profit society, whose mission is to promote civic values that establish a responsible consciousness in the traditional art of making cities.

The festival in 2010 brought together in different activities more than 1,500 Guatemalans, among them, the five schools of architecture in the city, students, academics, developers, businessmen, and mayors. Guatemala had the unforgettable visit of the extraordinary brothers Rob and Lèon Krier, accompanied by Dhiru Thadani in a unique and wonderful encounter.

During the festival, five students–winners of an essay contest from the same festival– representing each of the city’s five Architecture faculties, attended the prestigious conference “Durability in Construction,” organized by Professor Richard M. Economakis, with forty world experts in urban planning and traditional architecture at the University of Notre Dame. As a legacy of this festival and this conference, four Guatemalan students who participated in this event already have a master’s degree in urban planning and traditional Architecture from this renowned University.

And today, Ciudad Cayalá, is a solid and palpable scene of the true meaning of Arte Civico.
